Sunlight may kill the coronavirus on surfaces within minutes, Daily Mail reported according to an unpublished study carried out by the US Department of Homeland Security scientists (DHS).
As the study says, UV rays are able to damage the novel virus’ genetic material and impede its replication on the surfaces.
DHS Science and Technology Advisor Bill Bryan said that “the most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have in killing the virus on surfaces and in the air.”
“We’ve seen a similar effect as well where increasing the temperature and humidity or both is generally less favorable to the virus,” Bryan stressed.
The research also revealed that bleach and other disinfectants quickly killed the virus on surfaces.
