New rules introduced for forming factions in municipal councils

The rules governing the formation of factions in municipal councils are set to change under a new legislative initiative. An amendment to the Local Self-Government Code was introduced today during the Bureau session.

According to the draft law, prior to the recognition of authority of municipal councils elected in 2029, both non-partisan members and those who leave their original political party to join another will be granted the right to form factions.

The explanatory note to the draft states that the aim of the amendment is to support political parties and strengthen political pluralism within local self-government bodies.
