Neil Parekh: Georgia’s remarkable economic growth and strategic role in Central Asia deserve global recognition
“One of my key recommendations is that Georgia’s story of economic success, alongside its growing significance to Central Asia, should be amplified far more widely, particularly across the international community in Southeast Asia, Singapore, and the wider Asian continent,” stated Neil Parekh, Deputy Chairman of Singapore’s Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN).
Parekh highlighted compelling parallels between Singapore’s development trajectory and the transformation Georgia is undergoing today.
“In my view, the remarks made by the Prime Minister, as well as those of the Minister and Deputy Minister of Economy, brilliantly illustrate the progress Georgia has achieved over many years. However, I believe many people in Southeast Asia remain unaware of the impressive strides made in Georgia.
Therefore, a chief recommendation I would make is that Georgia’s success story, in economic growth, human capital development, and its emerging role as a vital gateway to Central Asia, be broadcast much more broadly to the international community across Southeast Asia, Singapore, and beyond. It is genuinely an extraordinary narrative.
As I mentioned during our dialogue, I see striking similarities between Singapore’s path over the past 50 years and the process Georgia is currently navigating. These are nimble nations punching well above their weight. Consequently, I believe the potential for talent and human resource development, cross-cultural collaboration, and mutual skill-sharing between the two jurisdictions is truly exceptional,” Parekh noted.
The remarks came during the official working visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Singapore. The Head of Government travelled alongside an official delegation including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, and Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani.
