The Ministry of Health of Georgia has announced that the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) has issued a set of health recommendations to the public in response to hot summer weather.

According to the Centre, during periods of extremely high temperatures, members of the public are advised to avoid being outdoors during the hottest hours of the day.

“Health experts urge the public to drink adequate amounts of water and strongly advise against consuming alcohol, sugary drinks, or beverages containing caffeine. Furthermore, it is recommended to refrain from high-intensity physical exertion and schedule such activities for cooler times of day, such as early morning. The NCDC strongly advises parents and pet owners never to leave children or animals inside parked cars, as extreme heat poses a severe threat to health and life. When outdoors, individuals should wear light, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fabrics, a hat, sunglasses, and carry an umbrella. Indoors, maintaining a cool environment is essential, with rooms ventilated during the night and early morning hours.

Heatwaves and extreme temperatures remain one of the primary public health challenges. Against the backdrop of climate change, the frequency and duration of high-temperature spells are also rising in Georgia, encouraging the spread of temperature-sensitive illnesses and exacerbating chronic non-communicable diseases,” the Ministry of Health statement reads.
