NBG: Lari loans increase by GEL 566 million, foreign-currency loans by GEL 270 million in August
The volume of loans issued by commercial banks in Georgia, excluding interbank loans, amounted to GEL 76.45 billion at the end of August 2026, according to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
The figure increased by GEL 836.34 million, or 1.11%, compared with the end of the previous month.
Annual loan growth, excluding the effect of exchange-rate fluctuations, stood at 14.83%.
According to the central bank, loans denominated in the national currency increased by GEL 565.93 million, or 1.28%, month-on-month, while foreign-currency-denominated loans increased by GEL 270.41 million, or 0.87%.
At the end of August 2026, banks had issued GEL 11.20 billion in loans denominated in the national currency to resident legal entities, up 0.26% from the previous month. Foreign-currency loans to resident legal entities stood at GEL 21.57 billion, 1.29% higher than the previous month.
According to the NBG report, lending to the resident household sector increased by 1.28%, or GEL 518.80 million, during August, reaching GEL 41.15 billion at the end of the month.
The loan larization ratio stood at 58.80% at the end of August 2026, up 0.10 percentage points from the end of the previous month.
