NBG: Bank deposits surge by over 2 billion lari in June compared to May
Total deposits placed in the banking sector (excluding interbank deposits) reached 73.52 billion lari by the end of June 2026, marking an increase of 2.13 billion lari, or 2.98 per cent, compared to the end of the previous month.
According to the National Bank, annual deposit growth stood at 22.86 per cent, excluding the effect of exchange rate fluctuations. In June, compared to the previous month, term deposits grew by 782.71 million lari (2.22 per cent), while demand deposits increased by 1.34 billion lari (3.71 per cent).
According to the NBG, the deposit larisation ratio stood at 56.16 per cent by the end of June 2026. Compared to the position at the end of the previous month, deposit larisation rose by 1.21 percentage points.
Furthermore, NBG data indicates that the weighted average annual market interest rate on term deposits was 7.25 per cent in June. This comprised 8.90 per cent on national currency-denominated deposits and 2.52 per cent on foreign currency-denominated deposits.
Of the foreign currency deposits, the US dollar held a 77.21 per cent share, with the euro accounting for 20.14 per cent.
