NBG asks citizens to exchange currency at registered money changers

Unauthorized currency exchange bureaus operating in various locations have been reported recently, the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) said in a statement.

The NBG registers currency exchange bureaus in compliance with prescribed regulations. Conducting currency exchange operations without registration is a breach of the law and may result in legal, including criminal consequences.

“We call on business entities to refrain from performing currency exchange operations to circumvent the legislation and ask citizens to be more careful and exchange currency only at registered currency exchange bureaus.

Citizens are encouraged to require a receipt, as they get their services, and, if they discover any violations, to contact us on the hotline of the National Bank of Georgia – 2 406 406 or email us at: [email protected],” the NBG said.
