NATO Assistant Secretary General: Russia not to veto NATO expansion

Russia cannot veto NATO expansion, NATO Assistant Secretary General Baiba Braže said at the Atlantic Council event held on December 11 to discuss the “bold ideas for NATO’s future.”

“Russia cannot veto the decision on expansion of NATO. We saw such examples and this is a fact. At the same time, NATO cannot veto membership of Georgia and Ukraine either. This largely depends on NATO’s political decision-making process. Before that we are working on practical issues. Last week, the NATO Ministerial took place and it was attended by foreign ministers of Georgia and Ukraine,” Baiba Braže said.

According to Baiba Braže, practical work continues to upgrade standards of Georgia and Ukraine so that both countries could fully use the potential of political and military resolutions.
