Municipal Development Fund and United Water Supply Company appoint new managers

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia and the United Water Supply Company of Georgia have new leadership, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia announced.

Giorgi Shonia has been appointed Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund, replacing Beka Urushadze.

Shonia previously served as Director of the United Water Supply Company of Georgia since August 2025. He has now been succeeded in that role by Besik Jikurauli.

According to the Ministry, Giorgi Shonia has extensive experience in the public sector. Prior to his appointment as Director of the Water Supply Company, he served as Acting Director and Deputy Director of the same organization. Until June 2025, he was Head of the Infrastructure Projects Coordination and Supervision Department at the Ministry of Infrastructure and also served as an advisor to the Minister. Between 2018 and 2025, he headed the Secretariat of the Urban Planning and Urban Economy Commission at the Tbilisi City Council, and from 2014 to 2018 held various positions within the Council.

Shonia is a graduate of the Sukhumi branch of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Faculty of Humanitarian, Social and Political Sciences.

Besik Jikurauli, newly appointed Director of the United Water Supply Company, has extensive managerial experience in both the public and private sectors, in Georgia and abroad. Before this appointment, he served as Deputy Director of the company and previously headed the Infrastructure Projects Coordination and Supervision Department at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Over the years, Jikurauli has held managerial roles in private companies and organizations, as well as in the banking sector, the National Bureau of Forensic Expertise, the British Embassy, and the Parliament of Georgia.

He graduated from the Faculty of International Law and International Relations at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and holds a Master’s degree in European Union Law from Maastricht University. He has also completed a program in organizational management at Harvard Business School.
