The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development’s Mountain Travel Agency (MTA) will construct the new infrastructure for the 2022-2023 winter ski season.
“The World Championships in freestyle skiing and snowboarding will be held in Bakuriani in 2023. The government must complete important infrastructure projects by 2023,” the MTA statement reads.
According to MTA, two artificial water reservoirs (lakes) for the snowmaking system were built as part of the project in Didveli and Mitarbi, while the 29 km of artificial snowmaking system is currently operational. The resort has also developed six new competition slopes and tourist ski routes.
“The World Championship in 2023 will feature 30 contests across seven sports. Following the sports events, the efforts put in place will serve the increasing number of tourists in Bakuriani for tens of years,” the agency has said.
Gudauri Resort also has several facilities, including two new restrooms and two functioning buildings.
Svaneti is actively preparing more ski routes as well as a cable car linking Mulakhi and Tetnuldi.
