MP Zarkua: UNM signed PACE resolution citing Saakashvili’s actions in war escalation; they changed war starting date to rewrite that reality

“Until 2014, the UNM maintained that the Russians attacked us on August 8. What is more, Saakashvili’s decree exists, which states in black and white that on August 8, hundreds of military vehicles and personnel entered Georgia from the Russian Federation via the Roki Tunnel,” stated MP Irakli Zarkua, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora Issues.

According to Zarkua, UNM representatives used to visit the graves on August 8, but subsequently shifted the date to August 7.

“They changed it because the Tagliavini report states that full-scale military actions by Saakashvili triggered the escalation of the war. Furthermore, the Council of Europe resolution blamed Georgia, and they signed it. To deflect blame from themselves, these traitors and UNM fascists altered the date, claiming that Russia entered on August 7 and started the war.

Georgia did not start the war; Saakashvili, through his provocations, enabled war and aggression against Georgia. Yes, we will always maintain that Saakashvili’s actions triggered the escalation of the war, as detailed in the Tagliavini report. They signed the Council of Europe document: UNM’s Darchiashvili, Kandelaki, Chiti-Chiora [Taktakishvili], Gabashvili, and Giorgi Targamadze, who now hosts Droeba. These individuals signed a CoE resolution that states Saakashvili’s actions explicitly caused the escalation of the war. That is the reality they dislike and are attempting to alter. That is why they now visit the graves on August 7. Yet footage and archives exist showing them visiting those graves on August 8.

When they saw the report confirming that actions had occurred on August 7, it raised a glaring question: if we were attacked on August 8, what was going on the day before? To cover up their own sabotage, they now claim Russia attacked us on August 7,” Zarkua declared.
