MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili: I doubt Zhorzholiani has capacity to renew UNM; Saakashvili demands blind obedience from his teammates
“Saakashvili and his party are entirely dependent on decisions made abroad; they rely on foreign directives,” declared MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.
Sharmanashvili made the remarks when asked about Mikheil Saakashvili’s statement yesterday.
“If Nanuka Zhorzholiani is their symbol of renewal, I wish them joy of it. If I had said 48 hours ago that Mikheil Saakashvili makes inconsistent and impulsive decisions, can you imagine what Tina Bokuchava would have done to me? She would have come out and claimed that I am a propagandist spreading lies about their beloved president.
These people are dependent on foreign influences and possess no opinions of their own; they are merely executors of decisions made abroad. This will ultimately lead to their downfall. I fail to see any capacity for renewal in what they are offering us under the guise of showcasing ‘old and new faces’. I do not know, perhaps I missed something, but I highly doubt that Zhorzholiani has the capacity to bring about renewal. Saakashvili demands blind obedience from his teammates.
The fundamental mistake here is to speak as though what we are witnessing is an internal party-political process. Saakashvili and his party are dependent on decisions made abroad; they rely on directives,” Sharmanashvili stated.
The former President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, had yesterday written on social media:
“The changes within the United National Movement will be fundamental, not cosmetic. The party must not only be revived but brought into better shape than it was in 2003. In July, the terms of all party officials will expire. It is vital to hold leadership elections in a format that rules out any interference from the regime. My candidate for chairperson is Nanuka Zhorzholiani. She has the experience, energy, and vision to rise to this challenge.”
