MP Sharashidze: US open to dialogue with all, focus must be on results
“We would like to see more delegations from the United States visiting Georgia. The format and status of this group remain unclear, making it difficult to comment in detail. However, in any case, the more American working groups we host, the better it will be for Georgia–US relations,” said Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party.
Sharashidze was responding to a statement by the ruling party regarding planned meetings with US government representatives in April.
According to him, communication between the two countries has recently declined.
“Once the mandate and format of this group become clear, we will be able to say more. Unfortunately, communication has been reduced to a minimum. Therefore, any visit is welcome, although I do not think such a group will obtain fundamentally new information from Georgia, as the United States already has sufficient insight into the undemocratic and autocratic developments taking place in the country,” he said.
Sharashidze added that the arrival of a delegation indicates continued interest from the US side.
“Dialogue and engagement are always acceptable forms for the United States. They communicate with everyone. The key issue is what results this dialogue will bring, what message Georgia will deliver, and what position the United States will present regarding Georgia. In general, dialogue, communication, and visits by delegations are welcome,” Sharashidze stated.
