MP Sharashidze: Due to GD’s undemocratic actions Georgia’s removal from EU accession agenda is no longer surprising

“Unfortunately, due to the undemocratic actions and unlawful steps taken by Georgian Dream, no one is surprised anymore that Georgia is no longer on the EU accession agenda,” Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of Gakharia for Georgia and a member of parliament, said.

According to Sharashidze, Georgia is facing open isolation.

“Unfortunately, due to Georgian Dream’s undemocratic actions and unlawful steps, it is no longer surprising that Georgia is no longer on the accession agenda. Whether Politico or another publication reports it, the fact is that the country is undergoing open isolation.

Suppression of dissent is taking place in the country, where pluralism and freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution are being restricted. In fact, we are seeing steps toward dictatorship. How can anyone in the EU discuss membership with a government that rejects the fundamental provisions of the Constitution, as well as freedom of speech and freedom of expression? This is a sad reality,” Sharashidze said.
