“I believe this whole thing is a PR stunt, as anyone with even a passing acquaintance with the Constitution knows that no citizen of our country is deprived of the right to vote in elections,” stated MP Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee.

Nikoloz Samkharadze was commenting on an initiative by the Opposition Alliance concerning a new campaign titled “The Émigré’s Vote”, which involves filing a constitutional lawsuit in September aimed at restoring voting access for Georgian emigrants.

As the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee noted, the constitutional lawsuit is doomed to failure from the outset.

“There are no issues whatsoever regarding constitutional compliance. It is quite clear they are simply grasping at straws in their unbearable predicament to show some sign of activity. A constitutional lawsuit will be doomed to fail from the start because every citizen of Georgia holds the right to vote. They are fully able to exercise their vote on Georgian territory and cast their ballot for their chosen candidate,” Samkharadze stated.
