Givi Mikanadze, the Chair of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee, participated in a meeting of the Committee on the Election of Judges to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Paris on January 8-9.
During the session, the committee interviewed and voted on candidates for the position of judges from Serbia, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, and Lithuania, who were nominated to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
On January 8, the committee unanimously rejected the list of candidates presented by Serbia, recommending to the CoE Parliamentary Assembly to refuse the list and request a new one.
For the candidates from Luxembourg, the committee held discussions, interviews, and a secret vote, with the results submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly.
On January 9, candidates from Bulgaria and Lithuania were reviewed and interviewed. The secret voting results are kept confidential until submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly Bureau.
