The Parliament of Georgia is the place for conversation, dialogue, and negotiations for political circles, said Davit Matikashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.
Matikashvili responded to today’s statement by Lelo – Strong Georgia that “it is necessary to begin responsible political negotiations between the Georgian Dream and the opposition parties that received the support of a majority of voters in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
According to Matikashvili, Lelo is currently trying to correct the steps it took by mistake.
“The relevant format provided by the country’s constitution implies participation in parliamentary elections and then using the mandates received in the Georgian legislative body based on that support. It is precisely this that is the place for the majority and the opposition to exchange views and familiarize themselves with relevant political views. The so-called mechanism that Lelo invented today and is trying to correct the steps taken by them a couple of years ago through mistake, naturally has no basis and place in reality. Let them wait for the elections, 2028 is not that far away, let them try to gain support – which I really do not hope for, given their practically depreciated rating – and in accordance with the constitutional provisions of Georgia, conduct the relevant dialogue in the Georgian Parliament, if they receive at least minimal support from the public,” said David Matikashvili.
