MP Matikashvili: EP debate held in “almost empty” chamber, with around 20 MEPs present
“The public saw a shameful picture during the debate held in the European Parliament. The chamber was practically empty, with only around 20 MEPs present, while baseless accusations were voiced by Jukneviciene and Georgia’s ‘implacable friends,’” Georgian Dream member Davit Matikashvili said.
According to Matikashvili, MEPs once again repeated accusations against Georgia that, he said, have no basis.
“It seems that the anti-Georgian forces did not even have enough resources to convince their own colleagues to come into the chamber and at least create the impression that someone was interested in these completely unfounded and fabricated attacks against Georgia.
All of this is worthless to our society. We have heard these lies many times. The more the Georgian people feel the groundlessness of these attacks, the more strongly they will respond.
However, there were also MEPs who directly held those acting against Georgia up to a mirror and clearly stated that all of this is completely unfounded, that Georgia is moving forward and that among the three countries — Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine — Georgia is a thousand times ahead on the path to European integration. Of course, Jukneviciene and others are not interested in this, because their goal is precisely to harm our country,” Matikashvili said.
