MP Makhashvili: We held productive meeting with Speakers of both Chambers of Belgian Parliament

“We had a very constructive meeting focused on the future and dialogue with the speakers of both chambers of the Belgian Parliament. Both sides agree that, in a changing world, it is essential to listen to each other, communicate and take each other’s positions into consideration as much as possible,” Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Integration Committee, said.

According to Makhashvili, meetings of this kind are welcome.

“This is the beginning of the path toward restoring full-fledged relations with the European Union. We may have certain disagreements with EU representatives, but we had, have and will continue to have bilateral relations. Therefore, we are optimistic about the future.

“Until now, there has usually been a complete wall of silence from these countries, and they would generally point the finger toward Brussels. However, at various levels, we see a willingness in the capitals to listen, talk and take positions into consideration — not to focus on disagreements, but on reducing those disagreements and establishing dialogue,” Makhashvili said.
