MP Makhashvili considers U.S. approval of Taliashvili's nomination as promising start for bilateral relations
The United States has approved Tamar Taliashvili’s candidacy within a notably tight timeframe. This marks a significant step forward, and, according to Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee, it could serve as a positive beginning for the renewal of bilateral relations.
According to him, Tamar Taliashvili possesses all the essential skills and expertise required of a professional diplomat, including a thorough understanding of the political and public issues that define U.S.-Georgia relations.
“Receiving U.S. approval so swiftly is a significant milestone, allowing Tamar Taliashvili to commence her diplomatic duties in Washington. Of course, this is a crucial step for us, and we hope it will lead to a reset of our bilateral relations, taking them to a new level. We remain optimistic in this regard. Tamar Taliashvili possesses all the necessary skills and expertise to serve as a professional diplomat, including a deep understanding of U.S.-Georgian political and public issues,” Makhashvili stated.
The chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee emphasised that both countries are making efforts to reset their relationship.
“It is essential to identify shared interests and work towards aligning them as much as possible. The role of ambassadors is primarily to foster these common interests. The relationship has suffered damage and deterioration due to previous diplomatic efforts, so this process will not be easy. However, it is encouraging that both sides are eager to find common ground and rebuild their partnership based on mutual interests,” he added.
Tamar Taliashvili has been nominated for the position of Georgian Ambassador to the United States.
