MP Machavariani: We will ignore resolutions based on absurdity and disinformation
“As long as resolutions are filled with absurdity and disinformation, they will have no value and we will pay no attention to them,” MP Levan Machavariani said, commenting on the debate scheduled for June 24 at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on a resolution concerning Georgia, which states that “democratic backsliding in Georgia continues unabated.”
“As long as such an unfair approach toward our government and our country persists, it will be very difficult to talk about resetting relations. Brussels must accept that, despite such unprecedented interference, they failed to replace Georgian Dream through elections.
Despite funding what we believe were attempts to stage a revolution in Georgia on five occasions in recent years, they also failed to remove Georgian Dream through revolutionary means.
They should sit down and talk to us. We left the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of our own accord because one of the conditions imposed on us was to hold snap elections, for which there are no grounds.
If anyone has evidence of alleged election fraud, let them present it — that is exactly what we have been demanding. Two years have passed, and not a single piece of evidence has been presented.
When PACE nevertheless insists that we should hold new elections, this constitutes disrespect for our sovereignty.
Against this backdrop, we are not interested in what kind of resolution they adopt. The resolutions adopted by either the European Parliament or PACE are driven by the same narrative. As long as these resolutions are saturated with absurdity and disinformation, they will have no value and we will pay no attention to them,” Machavariani said.
