MP Machavariani: UNM’s public begging for funds is embarrassing; clearing foreign agents from politics is welcome shift

“The opposition is in such a dire state that it scarcely bears talking about. Both the Opposition Alliance and the UNM are begging, ‘We have no money left, please collect some for us.’ They are behaving embarrassingly,” stated MP Levan Machavariani, a member of the parliamentary majority.

Machavariani was asked to comment on the United National Movement’s appeal for donations from supporters to fund its upcoming party convention.

“They are planning to elect Nanuka Zhorzholiani; they are utterly doomed. This is all part of a theatrical charade staged by their foreign superiors, who want public attention directed towards this doomed opposition while keeping Lelo and Gakharia out of these spectacles, creating the illusion that they are independent forces pursuing an independent agenda; all because their foreign superiors intend to stake their bets on Lelo and Gakharia for the 2028 elections.

Funding for foreign agents and wealthy NGOs dropped significantly when Trump put his seal of approval on what Georgian Dream had been saying and proving all along. America explicitly branded NED and USAID as criminal organisations, cutting off at least half of the funding for these agents. That financial burden has now fallen entirely on Brussels, which opposes transparency in our country for this very reason. Consequently, they are strapped for cash. This is a very welcome development, given that the political landscape must be cleansed of such foreign-agent actors,” Levan Machavariani declared.
