MP Machavariani: Khabeishvili likely attempts to distance himself from UNM and collective opposition's radical agenda
“It appears Levan Khabeishvili has fully realised that living in an absurdity no longer makes sense and is seemingly trying to face reality. In doing so, he must accept the path that Georgian Dream is pursuing and admit that our path and policy, both foreign and domestic, have no alternative,” stated MP Levan Machavariani, a member of the parliamentary majority.
According to Machavariani, elements of Khabeishvili’s latest statement align directly with the Georgian Dream policy.
“He has also realised full well that Georgian Dream won the elections precisely by pursuing our national policy and fulfilling the mandate of our citizens. Levan Khabeishvili has thrown in the towel and is likely attempting to somehow distance himself from the radical agenda of the United National Movement and the collective opposition. Let us see how events unfold and whether he will continue with this talking point, which ultimately mirrors the broader collective United National Movement narrative,” Machavariani remarked.
The commentary follows a letter published from prison by Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the Political Council of the United National Movement, in which he wrote:
“We will maintain a rational, state-centric policy with the Russian occupiers, which will unconditionally guarantee stability, peace, and the dignified protection of Georgia’s interests.” Furthermore, Khabeishvili noted: “Same-sex marriage will never exist in Georgia; a family was, is, and always will be the union of a man and a woman.”
