MP Macharashvili: If we join EU as it is now offered, we certainly won’t need to defend our sovereignty anymore, because we won’t have any left
“If we enter the European Union in the form they are offering today, we will certainly no longer need to protect our sovereignty, because we simply won’t have any,” declared MP Guram Macharashvili, Executive Secretary of the People’s Power party.
According to Macharashvili, the Eurocracy is no longer hiding its intentions, openly stating that Georgia must hand over its sovereignty to Brussels to join the EU.
“They are telling us directly that small countries entering the EU must be left without sovereignty, and that, naturally, you have to hand that sovereignty over to Brussels. Years ago, they used to do this covertly, telling candidate states they would protect their sovereignty while actually stripping them of it. Today, however, they say it straight to your face and no longer hide it: ‘If you want to join the EU, hand over your sovereignty because you don’t need it; we will take care of things.’ This is what the Eurocracy is telling us today.
During the Soviet era, we at least had sovereignty written into the constitution, and we fought for Georgia to decide its own affairs. Today, they are telling us outright to surrender our sovereignty to Brussels to get into the EU. Brussels is telling us to forget the three pillars of our ancestor, Ilia Chavchavadze: ‘Homeland, Language, Faith’. During the Soviet Union, when the Kremlin decided on April 14, 1978, to replace Georgian with Russian as the official state language, Georgian society stood up and forced the Soviet leadership to back down. Today, they are telling us: ‘Whatever decision we make, you must execute it, and those are the terms under which you will enter the EU,'” Macharashvili said.
