MP Levan Machavariani: Foreign agents seek power to drag Georgia into war and pocket reconstruction funds
“If the country is to be laid to ruin, we want no such trillions, nor any other money,” declared MP Levan Machavariani, First Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Dream parliamentary faction.
Levan Machavariani was asked to comment on a statement by Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance, who remarked: “When Ukraine wins the war soon, trillions will be spent on Ukraine’s reconstruction over the next decade, but Georgia won’t be allowed anywhere near those trillions. The whole of Europe will be busy with construction and making money.”
“Gvaramia, and of late many others, can no longer contain themselves; they are exposing the fact that they are deeply resentful that Georgia is not a participant in the war and is not in the same state as Ukraine. Previously, Lomjaria and, from the United National Movement, Sakvarelidze exposed this. These agents want to come to power to involve Georgia in the war, so that when the time comes to rebuild the ruins and various financial tranches begin to flow, they can line their own pockets and enrich themselves with these funds. This is an utterly immoral, treasonous statement on his part, which is indeed a slip of the tongue,” Levan Machavariani stated.
According to him, substantial financial tranches flowed after the 2008 war, and there are suspicions that some officials from the United National Movement enriched themselves through these funds.
“This also concerns the sale of weaponry that Georgia possessed, and the pocketing of money from the tranches. They have this past experience, and they would gladly repeat all of this once again,” Levan Machavariani stated.
