MP Kirtskhalia: How could anyone think ,ajority MP would support Gakharia’s Party bill?

Georgian Parliament Majority Leader Irakli Kirtskhalia says he did not vote in favor of amendments prepared by the For Georgia faction during today’s plenary session.

Speaking to Georgian Public Broadcaster First Channel, Kirtskhalia said he was not in the session hall when lawmakers voted on the bill concerning assemblies and demonstrations.

Kirtskhalia said he believes a technical error may have occurred, adding that such incidents are common in parliamentary proceedings.

“This is all ridiculous, and I find it ridiculous to comment on this issue. The Gakharia party wants to create a storm in a teacup — and over what? Yesterday, at a briefing, I stated that their so-called party would be added to the constitutional lawsuit. After that, how could any sane, reasonable person think that a member of the parliamentary majority would support a bill introduced by Gakharia’s party and vote against a law adopted by the same majority? This is all ridiculous,” Kirtskhalia said.

According to Kirtskhalia, members of Gakharia’s party are unfamiliar with parliamentary procedures.

“The members of Gakharia’s party do not understand parliamentary life, and this has been demonstrated in many ways. Such things happen in parliamentary proceedings. One journalist asked me today whether I was not even in the hall. This is further evidence that there may have been a technical error. Moreover, I am sure it was a technical error or that something got stuck. It is ridiculous that they want to make an issue out of this. The whole thing is laughable, and they are probably laughing about it themselves. Such things happen in parliamentary life, and commenting on this is not serious,” he added.

The amendments prepared by the For Georgia faction failed to pass in parliament. The bill sought to restore legislative provisions that had been in force before 2024.

According to the faction, several members of the parliamentary majority supported the bill, including Irakli Kirtskhalia.
