MP Irakli Cheishvili: Kulevi management provides proof that no sanctioned cargo passed through

“The oil refinery situated in Kulevi is a private entity; consequently, the Georgian state does not intervene in its management operations. Georgia’s role is solely to ensure that no sanctioned cargo moves through the terminal,” parliamentary majority member, MP Irakli Cheishvili, told GPB First Channel.

According to Cheishvili, the management of the Kulevi terminal has presented clear evidence demonstrating that no sanctioned goods passed through the facility.

“The sanctions carry a six-month grace period, and as I understand it, Kulevi’s leadership has presented sound arguments confirming that no sanctioned cargo moved through the site, nor were there any indications of such activity. Consequently, we remain hopeful that they will find common ground with the European Union and prevent the enforcement of sanctions.

There is certainly a possibility that these sanctions will be reconsidered rather than enacted, as the company has a strong case and will hopefully reach an understanding with the EU. The Georgian government does not interfere in this private matter,” Irakli Cheishvili stated.

The Council of the European Union recently adopted its 21st package of restrictive measures against Russia, which includes crypto-platforms registered in Georgia as well as the oil refinery located at the Kulevi terminal.
