“When such accusations are made against the EU’s top officials, including the European Commission, we are not surprised. However, this is extremely alarming, as it suggests that the EU’s highest institution is financing violence and unrest against Europe itself, at the heart of the continent,” Rati Ionatamishvili, Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Human Rights Protection Committee, said.

According to Ionatamishvili, European bureaucrats are acting against Europe’s interests.

“Of course, we are no longer surprised that these people and those standing behind them are trying to do the same thing in Georgia. Therefore, I believe this provides grounds for further assessment and reconsideration by everyone, because we see that the European bureaucrats currently running the European Commission appear to be acting against Europe itself,” Ionatamishvili said.

For context, foreign media reported that five organizations and trade unions involved in supporting and organizing protests in France and Italy had received funding from the European Union.
