MP Gotsiridze: Transferring Saakashvili to prison could lead to tension
Roman Gotsiridze, an opposition MP, has criticized the For Georgia party’s call to transfer Mikheil Saakashvili [Georgia’s ex-president] to prison.
Gotsiridze views the statement as harmful, which undermines opposition unity. He emphasizes the need for consolidation within the opposition during the pre-election period and believes divisive statements hinder this goal.
“Party leaders are not doctors; they have no right to talk about human health. The state of Saakashvili’s health can be seen from the conclusions of the Council of Doctors of the Public Defender. Everyone should understand that transferring the sick Saakashvili to prison will be a problematic process that could entail tension,” said Roman Gotsiridze.
The opposition For Georgia party urged the authorities to transfer Mikheil Saakashvili to prison.
“We urge the Georgian Dream party to cease the pre-election spectacle, refrain from exploiting the court system for its pre-election objectives, and avoid facilitating the reunion of the disbanded United National Movement and transferring Mikheil Saakashvili to the penitentiary at least after the New Year days,” stated the party member Mikheil Daushvili during a briefing on Thursday.
