MP Gorduladze: Marginal group, backed by foreign actors, aims to eradicate all authority in our country

“For those who have sunk beneath rock bottom, the only fitting response is in the words of Nodar Dumbadze: ‘When the vein of shame snaps in a man’s forehead, life becomes very easy thereafter.’ For these individuals, life has indeed become very simple, and the public will answer and judge them accordingly,” declared MP Archil Gorduladze, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to Gorduladze, it is increasingly evident that a marginal faction is actively working to dismantle and erode all forms of authority across the nation.

“This agenda is being actively supported by various foreign actors as well. However, the reality remains that those who respect this country’s culture and history, and genuinely care for its future, vastly outnumber them. No matter who says what, the fundamental truth is that the number of shameless people in Georgia is extremely small,” Gorduladze stated.

When questioned regarding recent court proceedings related to hate speech, Gorduladze added:

“We have seen numerous statements from representatives of the collective United National Movement who have chosen to side with malice, hiding behind the claim that insults and character assassination constitute freedom of expression. Abuse and insults have absolutely nothing to do with free speech. On the contrary, criminalising defamation, a measure not currently in force in our country, is entirely in line with the Strasbourg Court [ECHR] standard.

Legislative provisions must be strictly enforced, and this is exactly what the Ministry of Internal Affairs is doing. They are identifying offences, which are then brought before the courts. These judicial decisions are being made in full compliance with the highest standards of human rights protection. The tangible proof is already before us: we can see that hate speech on social networks has declined. The sole objective of this foreign-funded and orchestrated hate speech was to sow division among Georgian citizens. Instead, we are now seeing a reduction in such incidents, which directly serves the national interests of our country,” Gorduladze concluded.
