MP Giorgi Gabunia: American partners urge us repeatedly not to take old Joe’s statements to heart; we are doing just that
“Our American partners have repeatedly asked and signalled to us not to take old Joe’s [Wilson] statements to heart, and that is precisely what we are doing,” declared MP Giorgi Gabunia, Chairman of the Parliamentary Culture Committee.
Gabunia emphasised Georgia’s goal of revitalising and resetting its bilateral relations with the United States.
“Our objective is to forge a genuine strategic partnership out of what was previously a mere scrap of paper. Joe Wilson damages US–Georgia relations every single day. This individual has repeatedly been exposed for engaging in lobbying activities. Specific interests are what dictate his statements. Joe Wilson featured in FARA documents and specific fee disclosures. Therefore, his remarks lead us to believe his goal is to carry out specific assignments he receives regarding Georgia. What matters to us is the revitalisation of US–Georgian relations, not the statements of old Joe,” Gabunia said.
