MP Dekanoidze believes those threatening Georgia's European integration must face consequences
“I believe that sanctions should target the representatives of Georgian Dream, high-ranking officials, and anyone who supports Russian influence and undermines Georgia’s democracy,” stated Khatia Dekanoidze, a member of Eurooptimists.
Dekanoidze emphasized that specific sanctions may be imposed against high-ranking officials of the Georgian Dream, including restrictions on their movement.
“It’s crucial to recognize that the Georgian people will be the first to suffer if the European integration process freezes. It would be disastrous for Georgian statehood. We await the European Commission’s decision, but one of the gravest realities we face is the potential freeze of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic future, as highlighted by statements from Borrell and various ministers. Moreover, there’s active discussion about imposing targeted sanctions on high-ranking officials of Georgian Dream, including travel restrictions, which I fully support. Those who jeopardize Georgia’s path to European integration must face consequences,” Dekanoidze concluded.
Today, the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council is convening in Luxembourg. Georgia’s situation is among the topics under discussion.
