Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture names development of protected territories as top priority for government’s environmental protection policy

Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Davit Songhulashvili inspected tourist and recreation infrastructure of the Tbilisi National Park.

The Minister visited Sabaduri and Zedazeni parks and emphasized that the development of protected territories represented one of the top priorities for the government’s environmental protection policy.

“Today, a significant part of Georgia’s territory is included in the network of protected areas; as this network expands, we are strengthening its management and the associated resources to ensure that Georgia’s unique natural heritage is adequately protected,” Songhulashvili said.

The Tbilisi National Park comprises the territories of Mskheta and Tianeti Municipalities and part of the Gardabani Municipality.

The Agency of Protected Areas implemented an ecosystem infrastructure arrangement project. New administrative buildings and a visitors’ center were constructed. A children’s playground and cognitive zones, an amphitheatre, and parking zones were arranged. The project cost 7.2 million GEL.
