Ukrainian physician today visited ex-Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili at the 12th Rustavi Prison, saying he was banned from examining him.
During his non-contact visit behind glass, the physician said the ex-president rebuffs medical tests and assistance, “crucial to lighten his hunger strike.”
“Rejecting medical aid increases the risks of his deteriorating health. He requires regular supervision, extra medication to maintain physical health,” Ukrainian physician added.
Law enforcers arrested Mikheil Saakashvili in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on October 1. He kicked off a hunger striker day after detention.
The ex-president is charged with several criminal offences. In 2018, he was sentenced to six years in prison in absentia for abuse of power.
