Migratory bird hunting season set to open on August 22

In accordance with the decree of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture regarding the regulations, timeframes, and permitted firearms and equipment for the taking of wildlife species, the migratory bird hunting season will officially open on the fourth Saturday of August.

Hunting for migratory birds will be permitted from August 22, 2026, until March 1, 2027. To obtain hunting rights, individuals must pay a wild harvest permit fee of 10 GEL.

The permit fee can be paid at any commercial bank in Georgia using the following details:

Hunting is strictly prohibited in specified protected areas under Georgian law, including:

• Within administrative city limits
• Inside State Reserves and National Parks
• Within the Nugzar Zazanashvili Samukhi Multiple-Use Area
• In buffer zones extending 500 metres around State Reserves and 250 metres around National Parks
• On breeding facilities managed and operated by the LEPL National Wildlife Agency

Migratory bird hunting is restricted to approved hunting weaponry as defined under Article 7 of the Law of Georgia on Weapons, specifically:

Smooth-bore hunting firearms (shotguns)
Rifled hunting firearms (carbines or rifles)
Combination hunting firearms
Hunting cold weapons and edged throwing weapons
Hunting pneumatic weapons (air rifles)
