Within the framework of combating illegal migration, officers from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained 53 foreign individuals as a result of complex operations conducted in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kobuleti and Zugdidi, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported.

According to the MIA, the detained individuals include citizens of Kenya, Uganda, India, Turkmenistan, the Philippines, Cuba, Jordan, Russia, Turkiye, Ghana, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.

Officers from the Migration Department checked various locations and units to reveal foreign nationals illegally staying in Georgia.

Authorities established that they were staying in the country without legal grounds under the Law of Georgia “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.”

They are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre to enforce the expulsion decisions and facilitate their return to their countries of origin.

“The Migration Department routinely conducts special immigration control operations to ensure the effective enforcement of Georgia’s Law ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
