MIA imposes traffic restrictions on March 22

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) imposed traffic restrictions on March 22, in connection with the funeral of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.

According to the MIA, the restrictions will apply to both private motorcars and municipal transport.

The following roads will be fully blocked for traffic from 2 p.m.: Right Riverbank of the Mtkvari from Galaktioni Bridge to Abanotubani in Ortachala, Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue, Lado Asatiani, Shalva Dadiani, Kote Apkhazi and Baratashvili Streets.

Movement will be restricted on Tabukashvili, Chanturia, Virsaladze, Atoneli Streets, Dry Bridge, Zaarbruken Square, Baratashvili Ascend, Queen Ketevan Avenue, Avlip Zurabashvili, Telavi and Tsurtsumia Streets, Europe Square, and Gorgasali Square.

The MIA announced that restrictions will stand near the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral street and proposed alternative routes.

It also called on citizens to refrain from driving by car except in cases of emergency.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II passed away on March 17 at the age of 93.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, will be laid to rest on Sunday, March 22, in the Sioni Cathedral.
