MIA arrests one person for assaulting officer during protest

Tbilisi Police Department officials, acting on operational measures and investigative actions, have arrested A.G. (born 1980), a previously convicted individual, for assaulting a police officer during a protest on Rustaveli Avenue near the Parliament building.

A.G., who had a restraining order issued against him in 2021 for violence against his parents, physically attacked a patrol inspector assigned to maintain public order during the protest. Following swift actions, the suspect was detained for assaulting the officer.

The offense, under Article 353(1) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, carries a prison sentence of 4 to 7 years. The investigation is ongoing.
