MIA arrests 62 for drug-related crimes

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested 62 individuals on drug-related offences, including 46 drug dealers, according to Central Criminal Police Department Director Teimuraz Kupatadze.

Police detained drug dealers in Batumi, Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, Gori, Marneuli and Rustavi, as well as in different districts of Tbilisi, including Ponichala settlement.

Furthermore, the law enforcers apprehended up to 20 foreigners, including nationals of Turkey, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, Latvia, Nigeria, and Armenia, in connection with illicit drugs smuggling into the country.

The defendants face up to 20 years in prison or a life sentence for their crimes.

According to the Criminal Police Chief, 204 drug dealers were arrested this year.
