MIA: 51 people arrested as Police seize illegal weapons and explosives across country

Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, stated that law enforcement officers seized dozens of illegal firearms, ammunition and explosives across the country over the past two days, resulting in the arrest of 51 people.

At a briefing held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Darakhvelidze said the operations were carried out as part of police and preventive measures aimed at combating organized crime and ensuring public safety.

“Over the past two days, as a result of police and preventive measures conducted by law enforcement officers across the country, dozens of illegal firearms, ammunition and explosives have been seized — a total of 51 people have been arrested,” Darakhvelidze said.

According to him, the measures were conducted in Tbilisi and various regions of the country based on court rulings. During searches of detainees’ homes, vehicles and other premises, police seized a large quantity of firearms and automatic weapons, hand grenades, magazines, hundreds of cartridges and explosive materials as evidence.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which предусматривает punishment of up to seven years in prison.
