I told the opposition, if you stay out, if you go for any kind of street revolution you will not have a kind of a dialogue, we will not work together, there will be no solution from the parliamentary side, MEP Viola von Cramon said at the online conference held by the Georgian Institute of Politics.

MEP believes that Georgian people need the outcome as soon as possible.

“We have said we would like to support Georgia on their way to the European Union, but we need partners in Georgia who would be ready to pick up our support and who would be ready to realize of what we have offered in terms of financial support, of connectivity, of projects and so on. And for the last month we have regreted of how low the level of comittment all over the Georgian political arena was.

I have been in Georgia. I just have talked to different people from different parties, former MPs, civil society, all kinds of different people to get an overview of what is going on and what might help and how can we positively inflluence and make a use of our mandate in that respect. I was pretty frustated by the non-understanding whether overall and the majority of the people in Georgia expect something else.They expect solution for this crisis, for this political mess as soon as possible.

I was not happy with this boycott of the parties from the very beginning because they have not even waited until the final result of the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations or assesment was out,” MEP Viola von Cramon stated.

She added that the opposition have decided during the election night that they would go for boycott and that was not acceptable for her.

“If you stay out, if you go for any kind of street revolution you will not have a kind of a dialogue, we will not work together, there will be no solution from the parliamentary side. We cannot improve the instruments for the opposition, we cannot implement all the recommendations which are actually in the agreement of Mr Danielsson or Charles Michel had provided you with. Overall, we need a strong opposition, we need our partners in the parliament and not outside. We appeal to all parties to do their job properly,” MEP Viola von Cramon said.

The second EU-mediated attempt to solve political crises in Georgia failed. EU mediator Christian Danielsson said he proposed a solution that puts the country’s interest first to the parties, but none of the political actors agreed on the solution.
