Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Rasa Juknevičienė has published a social media post regarding the state of health of the imprisoned politician Elene Khoshtaria.

Juknevičienė wrote that after ten months of detention, Khoshtaria faces irreversible harm if she remains without appropriate medical treatment, demanding her immediate release.

“After 10 months of unlawful detention, Elene Khoshtaria risks irreversible harm without treatment. The European Parliament has recognised her degrading conditions and need for specialised care. Georgian authorities ignore requests for a treatment plan. That’s political persecution. Free Elene!” Rasa Juknevičienė wrote.

According to Khoshtaria’s lawyer, Shota Tutberidze, the health condition of Elene Khoshtaria, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, has severely worsened.

In response, the Special Penitentiary Service issued a statement countering these claims, asserting that there has been no deterioration in the convict’s health status in any shape or form. According to the agency, Khoshtaria is fully provided with all necessary medical care. The Service further clarified that it had responded appropriately to a formal request submitted by her legal counsel, immediately providing them with updated information regarding the convict’s health.
