MEP Nathalie Loiseau: EU does nothing in Georgia that is a shame

“In Georgia, the EU is the only party that does nothing, and that is a shame,” said MEP Nathalie Loiseau in the European Parliament during the debates on Georgia.

According to the MEP, the elections “were stolen, and neither the new president nor the government or the Parliament are legitimate.”

“I’m still waiting for you to say this clearly when our Parliament has already done so. Mr. Commissioner, people have been protesting for 55 days. They’ve been repressed, brutally attacked, subjected to arbitrary arrests, and violence, and the Council was unable to adopt serious sanctions. Our member states are still too cold, apart from the Baltic countries, whom I congratulate. Individual countries have acted, but we haven’t. The measures that have been taken don’t make sense.

Georgians are protesting in the streets with European flags. They believe in Europe, and they truly deserve our support. President Zourabichvili is constantly there. What is happening in Georgia is serious, not just for Georgia, but for the Caucasus, security in the Black Sea, and for us. The score here is Putin one, Europe zero. The game is not over yet for democracy. Let’s make sure we don’t lose it,” she said.
