MEP Małgorzata Gosiewska: Release former President Saakashvili and all other political prisoners immediately and unconditionally, and allow them to enter the EU

“There is an attempt to establish an oligarchic dictatorship in Georgia, and the victim of this political revenge is former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili,” stated MEP Małgorzata Gosiewska during a debate in the European Parliament.

According to her, “Mikheil Saakashvili is imprisoned by people who want to derail Georgia from its European path.”

“Bidzina Ivanishvili is destroying democracy in Georgia and leading the country towards a Russian-like dictatorship. He has taken over institutions, state institutions, the judiciary, persecuted the opposition, and wants to outlaw political opposition parties.

This is no longer a political crisis. It’s an attempt to establish an oligarchic dictatorship. And the victim of this political revenge is Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia, who fought for the European future of his country, opposed Russian aggression, and is now imprisoned by the people who want to take Georgia off the European path.

Let me say this loud and clear: release Mikheil Saakashvili immediately and unconditionally, and all other political prisoners, and let them enter the EU. Let me say this. Let us stop just condemning. Time has come for decisive and coordinated action against Ivanishvili, his assets and the entire network of people who maintain this system of oppression.

Georgia belongs to all Georgian people and to Europe, not Ivanishvili. We won’t give it up to Putin,” stated Małgorzata Gosiewska.
