MEP Gregorová says EP prefers Saakashvili to be moved out of country

MEP Petras Auštrevičius on Thursday called on Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili to pardon Mtavari TV founder Nika Gvaramia and ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili “as soon as possible.”  Auštrevičius said: “There is no place for Georgia in the European Union with political prisoners. That is our simple and sound message.”

“To keep the former president in prison is not a European tradition. I can tell you. We ended it up in the middle ages to keep the leadership in the prisons,” he stated.

MEP Markéta Gregorová added that the “European Parliament, based on its resolutions and statements, would prefer Saakashvili to be moved out of the country, not only, of course, humanitarian reasons but of course, it helps depolarization of Georgia.”
