MEP Danilo Della Valle: It is unacceptable for European elites to want to alter the electoral result

“In Georgia, the OSCE has been able to verify the overall correct conduct of the elections. But at the same time, it is unacceptable for European elites to want to alter the electoral result. They even go as far as legitimizing a President despite she is now legally out of office,” said Danilo Della Valle, a Member of the European Parliament in the European Parliament during the debates on Georgia.

According to the MEP, there is no real interest in democracy and human rights. The majority parties exploit this rhetoric only to attack countries that don’t bow to Western interests.

“I imagine future generations will scrutinize the work of this Parliament, questioning the actions of European democracy representatives while the West was sliding into chaos. Once again, we are about to debate the situation in Georgia, but this Assembly hasn’t found time to express itself with a single resolution on the inhumane conditions and the deliberately planned genocide of the Palestinian population over the years. And all this is shameful to me.

The truth is that there is no real interest in democracy and human rights. The majority parties exploit this rhetoric only to attack countries that don’t bow to Western interests. In Georgia, the OSCE has been able to verify the overall correct conduct of the elections. This doesn’t deny the country’s problems, which are numerous, and we have condemned several laws in Georgia that we don’t agree with. But at the same time, it is unacceptable for European elites to want to alter the electoral result when it doesn’t coincide with NATO’s foreign policy choices. They even go as far as legitimizing a President despite she is now legally out of office.

This mentality belongs to the past. If you don’t want to listen to us, at least consider the European citizens who don’t vote or support any other political formation in discontinuity with the current EU leadership. It’s time for a radical change in our approach to avoid betraying the trust of the people we represent and to face with fairness and justice the global challenges that await us,” he said.
