MEP Auštrevičius hopes Ambassador Herczynski to be 'more supportive' for opposition forces, pro-European course

“We have to be out of the illusion that things in Georgia will settle themselves,” said European Parliament member Petras Auštrevičius during a joint press conference with leaders of the Coalition for Change, Nika Gvaramia and Zurab Japaridze, and MEPs, Dainius Žalimas and Urmas Paet.

Auštrevičius stressed the need for “practical actions and solutions.”

“That’s why starting from the EU ambassador Herczynski placed in Tbilisi. I hope he will be more supportive for opposition forces and the pro-European course policy of Georgia and Commissioner as well, High Representative Kaja Kallas. They have to react.

I mean, we can’t wait. Time solves nothing. As we see, the Tbilisi regime is consolidating its power, imposing more restrictive and more repressive system against own people. So we have to react and if we don’t react, we will simply lose not just the country, but we will betray our principles, which is again very important.

Today we had a new work program for the commission 2025 start from Georgia. It’s very important to defend democracy and the pro-European cause of this country,” he noted.
