Media representatives protested the detention of Batumelebi director Mzia Amaglobeli at the government administration.
According to journalists participating in the demonstration, Amaglobeli is being illegally detained. Media representatives demand Mzia Amaglobeli’s immediate release.
“We call on the Special Investigation Service to urgently investigate the illegal detention and ill-treatment of Mzia Amaglobeli,” the media representatives said.
Media representatives gathered at the government administration read a statement calling on international organizations and the diplomatic corps to take an interest in Amaglobeli’s case. According to media representatives participating in the demonstration, the video footage released showing Amaglobeli’s detention has been edited and does not reflect part of the important events taking place on the ground.
Law enforcement officers have arrested Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder and director of the media organization Batumelebi, under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which refers to assault on a police officer.
