Mayor Kaladze: I believe Trump administration can reverse unjust decisions against Georgia

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has welcomed a letter from US President Donald Trump addressed to the Prime Minister of Georgia, stating his belief that the new US administration possesses the strength to swiftly overturn the “unjust decisions” enacted against the Georgian state by its predecessor.

Kaladze emphasised that the Georgian government remains fully prepared for and completely transparent about fostering genuine friendship and strategic partnership.

“We view this letter very positively. We have repeatedly declared that the Georgian government is ready to turn over a new leaf in our relations. We are absolutely transparent and ready for friendship and partnership. The unfair treatment Georgia received under the previous administration was categorically unacceptable to us. I am referring specifically to the sanctions that were imposed without any explanation whatsoever, and for which there was absolutely no foundation. They were implemented purely as tools for blackmail and intimidation.

I believe the current administration, under the leadership of President Trump, has the power to very easily reverse these unjust decisions made against the Georgian state and the Georgian people. We are ready for friendship and cooperation. When we talk about partnership and strategic relations, it goes without saying that the interests of both nations and both peoples, both the American and the Georgian people, must be fully respected,” Kakha Kaladze stated.

The statement follows a letter sent by US President Donald Trump to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, thanking him for his congratulations on the 250th anniversary of American Independence. In the letter, President Trump noted: “I look forward to strengthening our cooperation as we work together toward a more secure, prosperous, and peaceful future.”
