Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has commented on the ongoing protests in France, saying that violent acts constitute extremely serious crimes.

According to the mayor, the very processes that senior officials in certain European countries encouraged and supported in Georgia are now taking place in their own countries.

“What was happening in Georgia and what senior officials from certain EU countries were organizing through organizations they funded has now reached their own countries. What is happening in European countries is unpleasant and regrettable. Of course, throwing Molotov cocktails is an extremely serious crime,” Kaladze said.

He added that in Georgia, individuals involved in similar acts had been portrayed as heroes by certain groups, which amounted to direct encouragement of violence.

“We remember that in Georgia there was an attempt to burn politicians alive. Certain television channels, non-governmental organizations and political parties did everything they could to portray the individual involved as a hero. The president even pardoned him. This is, of course, encouragement.

The Molotov cocktail thrown by that particular individual was not simply his own act. It was also the responsibility of EU representatives and those organizations and countries that financed and encouraged all this filth and extremism, helping such incidents take place in the country,” the Tbilisi mayor said.
